The Detroit Lions made a couple of moves over the past 24 hours, placing veteran TE David Ausberry on the season-ending IR and signing two players to fight for spots on the roster as preseason approaches quickly.
On Monday, August 10, the Lions signed TE Jacob Maxwell. Maxwell has an uphill battle as camp continues, sitting behind Eric Ebron, Brandon Pettigrew and Joseph Fauria on the depth chart, but Maxwell is no stranger to that scenario, as he was one of the last players cut from the Lions roster in 2014.
Along with signing Maxwell, the Lions added a cornerback Tuesday after officially placing Ausberry on the IR.

Skinner is a 2nd-year corner out of Bethel College. Similarly to Maxwell, Skinner has an uphill battle to make the roster, but will have an opportunity to show his stuff when the Lions take the field for their first preseason game on Thursday against the New York Jets.
