In an unbelievable twist of irony, Matthew Stafford has led the Los Angeles Rams to the Super Bowl on the one year anniversary of his trade from the Detroit Lions. And those of us in the Motor City who followed his NFL career from the day he was drafted 1st overall by Detroit now have to watch as another former member of the Lions has a chance for the ultimate glory that’s evaded Detroit since 1957.
Of course, Stafford said that it was his goal to play in meaningful games after the trade to the Rams was made official. He’s now won three playoff games in one month, the same number of attempts he had in Detroit in over a decade. Needless to say, the Super Bowl is a meaningful game, and he and his teammates will be there two weeks from today.
“It means the next one which is a hell of a game!” Stafford exclaimed.
“That was an unbeleivable performance by our team,” he continued. “Didn’t start the way we wanted to, the guys had to battle. We said in the locker room that there’s no way we’re not winning this game. Our guys put our mind to it, came out and did it. I’m so proud of them.”
“I’m blessed to be a part of this team, this group of guys, this coaching staff. You can’t write the story any better. I’m at a loss for words. I’m having blast playing ball with these guys. We got one more in the home stadium, let’s get it done.”
Stafford and the Rams will take on the Bengals at SoFi Stadium on February 13.
