Miguel Cabrera believes the Detroit Tigers are ‘very close’

After having the worst record in 2019, there was no doubt about it that the Detroit Tigers would be one of the worst teams in baseball once again in 2020.

With the 2020 regular season about to wrap up, the Tigers currently have the fourth-worst record in the league and though they battled for a while, it is apparent that they are still a good distance away from truly competing for a playoff spot.

But don’t tell that to Tigers’ DH Miguel Cabrera. During his first interview in six months, Miggy was asked about how close the Tigers are to contending and he said he thinks they are “really close.”

“I think that’s our goal. Be a contending team, be a team that can be in the playoffs. I think we’re in a good place to do that. We have to be patient, but we have a lot of young talent. They’re learning how to play in the big leagues. But I believe they can be better. Hopefully next year we can be a better year, hopefully next year we can compete and compete to be in the playoffs.

I think we’re really close. Every day I see how they’re playing in the field. I think we’re really, really close to going to the next step. It’s tough to say, ‘We’re going to do this and we’re going to do that.’ I think it’s time to go out there and win the games.”

Nation, do you agree with Miggy that the Tigers are close to contending for a playoff spot?
