It’s Opening Day, nation! In just a few hours, our very own ace Justin Verlander will be toeing the slab for the Tigers as they take on the Chicago White Sox.
It’ll mark the ninth time in ten seasons that Verlander is starting on Opening Day for Detroit. Last season, he put together another incredible campaign, posting a 16-9 record with an ERA of 3.04 and a WHIP of exactly 1.00. That WHIP and his strikeout total (254) were tops in the American League last season, and his 4.46 K:BB ratio was the best mark in his career since 2011, when he won both the Cy Young and MVP in the junior circuit.
Before Verlander gets on the bump and (hopefully) gets the Tigers off on the right foot on Monday, take a look back at his best moments from 2016.
