If you are a fan of the Detroit Tigers then you are lucky enough to be witnessing one of the best players in the history of baseball, Miguel Cabrera, play on a regular basis.
Cabrera entered the league at the tender age of only 20-years-old as a member of the Florida Marlins. He made his debut on June 20th, 2003 and spent the remainder of that season and then the next four seasons as a Marlin before being traded to the Tigers prior to 2008.
Ever since his Major League Baseball debut, Cabrera has been a special player and when all is said and done he will be considered one of the best to ever play the game of baseball.
Here is a countdown of 9reasons why Miguel Cabrera is freaking awesome!
First game flashes of greatness
Cabrera made his Major League Baseball debut on June 20th, 2003 against Tampa Bay and it was a day he will never forget. He became only the third player since 1900 to hit a walk-off home run in his first big league game. Since that day, Cabrera has hit plenty more home runs to add to his total.
Above is a video of the home run, check out Miggy looking slim and trim when he was only 20-years-old.
Sure Miguel Cabrera is one of the best players in baseball, but he is also just one of the guys in the clubhouse.
Miggy does a great job messing around with his teammates to keep them lose during a 162 game season that can seem to drag on.
Here is a video of Cabrera, who was injured at the time, trying to force feed Brayan Pena what looks to be some sort of Nutri-Grain bar or something of that nature. Doing these things really help to keep a team loose.
Miggy makes hitting look easy
Miguel Cabrera is without a doubt one of the best all-around hitters to ever play the game of baseball.
The amazing thing about Cabrera is how easy he can make the game seem at times. How many times have you seen him almost take a half swing and drive the ball over the right-field fence?
Many would argue that hitting a baseball is the single most difficult thing to do in all of the sports. I’m not sure that Miggy agrees with that statement.
Miguel Cabrera is an 11-time All-Star and has become a fixture in the game.
In 2014, Cabrera showed the world how great he is when he hit a two-run home run off of Adam Wainwright. Check out the video above to relive the home run.
When you hear the name Miguel Cabrera, you think of All-Star.
Fan interaction and community involvement
A couple of the many reasons why fans love Miguel Cabrera is because of his interaction with them, along with his involvement in the community.
Cabrera is known to joke around with fans, sometimes in the middle of a game. The video above shows a little bit about what I am talking about.
Miggy is also very involved in the community and has started the Miguel Cabrera Foundation to help others in need.
One of the best hitters of all-time
There is no doubt that Miguel Cabrera is one of the greatest hitters in the history of baseball. He hits for average and power, and there is not a pitcher in the game that does not fear him coming to the plate.
Miggy has a career batting average of .316 and had hit 465 career home runs. His combination of power and average is something general managers only dream of finding.
One of the reasons why Cabrera is so great is his sweet swing. Check out the video above highlighting why his swing is so flawless and why he is such a good hitter.
Comedian on and off the field
If there’s one thing apparent about Miguel Cabrera, it’s he has a great sense of humor. There is no shortage of videos of Cabrera having fun during baseball games and if you have the time you should check them out.
This video features Cabrera messing around with Adrian Beltre of the Texas Rangers. Keep in mind while you are watching it that Beltre cannot stand it when somebody touches his head. This is classic Miggy being Miggy.
Two time MVP
Miguel Cabrera won the American League MVP in both 2012 and 2013 making him only the seventh player to win the award in back-to-back seasons.
He ended up winning the Triple Crown in 2012, but many would argue 2013 was actually the better of the two seasons.
Winning the back-to-back MVP awards most certainly cemented Cabrera as one of the greatest to ever play the game.
Here is a video of each and every home run Cabrera hit in 2013. Pure awesomeness!
Triple Crown winner
In 2012, Miguel Cabrera accomplished something only 14 other players have accomplished in the history of Major League Baseball, he won the Triple Crown.
Cabrera finished the season with a .330 batting average, 44 home runs, and 139 RBIs.
This helped the Tigers win the American League Central although they eventually lost to the San Francisco Giants in the World Series.
Thanks to Miguel Cabrera and the Detroit Tigers, 2012 is a year that will always live in our memories.
