THE CARDIAC CATS
What stood out to A.J. Reilly the most was a Week 9 tilt between the Detroit Lions and the Minnesota Vikings. At the time, there was not a whole lot of weight to it other than it being a divisional playoff game.
But a thrilling comeback win in overtime after tying it up with less than 30 seconds to go in the game was huge for Reilly in taking them as a “serious contender.”
It was the first time this season I started taking their contention seriously. If they could do that, against that defense, then they are truly never out of a game.
Our very own Julius Porter echoed a lot of Reilly’s thoughts pertaining to this particular game, calling it a way of “cratering entrance into the NFL playoff landscape — and to be more time specific – it’s Golden Tate’s catch and juke fest run before catapulting into the end zone for match point. That’s the best buzz the city saw in a year.”
Rarely has Detroit truly played a complete game start to finish, but head coach Jim Caldwell and quarterback Matthew Stafford have gotten into a habit of pushing the right buttons at the right times of close games.
