Five Can’t Miss Red Wings Games In 2013-14

The NHL today has released the 2013-2014 schedule and each team has a number of games that are going to be must see spectacles. With the success that the Detroit Red Wings have had over the past 22 years, there have been many rivalries created and it will be hard to narrow the must see games down to ten. With the Red Wings moving to the Eastern Conference for this season, there now has become even more games that are must see. This list is what I feel are the ten most must see games of the 2013-2014 season.

October 5th, 2013 at Boston

This will be the Red Wings first of four games against the 2013 Eastern Conference champions and the first game as divisional opponents. The Red Wings and the Bruins are the likely top two teams in the division and each game against each other should hold a lot of meaning especially being Original Six opponents.

December 1st, 2013 at Ottawa

This is one of the most interesting games of the season because it will give the hockey world a view at how the Senators fans welcome back their former captain Daniel Alfredsson, who signed a one year deal with the Red Wings earlier this month in hopes of winning his first Stanley Cup. Many believed that Alfredsson’s decision to leave the Senators after 17 seasons to chase a cup has tainted his image not only in Ottawa, but also in all of hockey.

December 14th, 2013 vs Pittsburgh

Any time the Red Wings and the Penguins get together it makes for a classic hockey game, especially after the 2008 and 2009 battles for the Stanley Cup. This will be the first of two games that the Penguins will visit Joe Louis Arena, and while they won’t be battling for a Stanley Cup any time soon, there is a chance that the two teams will meet in the Eastern Conference Finals.

January 1st, 2014 vs Toronto

What else needs to be said about this game except that it is the moment that Red Wings and Maple Leafs fans have been waiting to see for the past two years. After the lockout wiped out the 2013 Winter Classic, the Red Wings and Leafs will once again get the chance have the eyes of the hockey world on them as they carry on what has become a great NHL tradition. While it means nothing more than two points in the standings, the Winter Classic has become a spectacle that every NHL team wants to participate in and that every fan wants to attend.

January 22nd, 2014 vs Chicago

This might be the most anticipated game of the season for Red Wings fans. At this point, it will have been seven months since the Red Wings and Blackhawks faced off in a classic best of seven series that saw the Red Wings blow a 3-1 series lead and lose in overtime in game 7 to the eventual champions. This will be the only time this season the Blackhawks come to Detroit and there will only be one other matchup between the long time rivals when the Red Wings travel to Chicago on March 16th.

While there are another 77 games in the 2013-2014 season that are all going to be great, these are my top five games of the season that I will not miss for anything. What games do you think are the ones that are can’t miss? Below is a link that will take you to the full 2013-2014 Detroit Red Wings schedule.
