Let’s not kid ourselves: the Detroit Tigers need some home cooking. Coming off another sweep on the road at the hands of the Cleveland Indians, Detroit needs to get their groove back and hopefully a three game weekend home series will do the trick. Currently the Tigers stand at 14-13 and tied for 2nd place in the Central Division.
Detroit will lean on Nick Castellanos for some offensive firepower this weekend. The April Player Of The Month is now hitting an incredible .383 on the year and he is 11-25 with runners in scoring position. He’s well on his way to the breakout year that many predicted for him. James McCann is back from the disabled list and started two games in the Cleveland series behind the plate. Right fielder J.D. Martinez is the only Tigers starter to have started every game this season.
The Texas Rangers currently sit in 2nd place in the American League West, but, the team is 5-5 in their last 10 games and are riding a 3 game losing streak. Texas is lead offensively by Nomar Mazara with a .333 batting average while Roughned Odor has provided the power with four home runs in 2016. Former Tiger Prince Fielder has gotten off to a slow start this season with only a .213 batting average. Texas is scheduled to put Cole Hamels and A.J. Griffin on the mound in the first two games who are a combined 6-0 this season.
