The Detroit Red Wings will be without defenseman Ryan Sproul for the remainder of the season due to an ACL injury.

He slid heavily into the boards and was helped off the ice in the second period against the Edmonton Oilers Saturday night.

Sproul played in 27 games this season scoring one goal and adding six assists. The rookie defenseman may need to undergo surgery at the end of the year.

The Wings have recalled defenseman Robbie Russo from the Grand Rapids Griffins to take Sproul’s spot in the lineup. Russo will make his NHL debut against the Maple Leafs tonight in Toronto at 7:30 p.m. ET.
