**UPDATE** Tatar will earn $2.75 million per season of the contract. That leaves roughly $5.27 million of cap space to sign DeKeyser, and Alfredsson if he decides to come back, which with that amount of cap space left, does not look likely.
(Original post): One of the two remaining Red Wings’ restricted free agents now has a shiny new deal heading into the 2014 pre-season. Detroit announced today that they’ve come to terms with Tomas Tatar on a contract that would keep him in the winged wheel for the next 3 years. Due to club policy, additional information on the deal has not been released.
Tatar finished 2nd among Red Wings last season in goals with 19, trailing only Gustav Nyquist (28). He finished up 6th on the team in points (39), and since the 2010-2011 season, he’s skated in 100 career games with Detroit, with 24 goals and 23 assists (.47 points per game). They now have only Danny DeKeyser left as a restricted free agent to sign to a new deal.
What does this mean for Detroit moving forward? (No pun intended). If Daniel Alfredsson decides to play another year in Detroit, they’ll have a glut of players at forward once again, which means more than likely that Tomas Jurco will at least start the year in Grand Rapids, as he’s the last kid that’s still waiver-exempt. Only training camp and pre-season will tell which players keep their roster spots, and which ones get to ride the pine.
