The Detroit Lions have their only primetime game of the year, on Monday Night Football, against the New York Giants. It is only the second time that the two teams have played each other on Monday Night Football, and the first time ended with a 15-9 Detroit victory. The New York Giants and the Detroit Lions gave the fans an overtime thriller last season, with the Giants winning 23-20. This matchup promises more of the same as these two new look offenses unleash their new packages.
The Lions are coming off of a bitter collapse at the helm of Jim Schwartz, and they are hoping that Jim Caldwell and his staff will be able to utilize the talent of the team better. Matthew Stafford hopes to prove that the addition of Golden Tate and Joe Lombardi’s offense will get Detroit back in the playoff hunt. Nick Fairley has the chance to show the entire nation they were wrong about him, and the Lions linebackers have their sights set on Eli. Detroit has a lot to prove, at home, on Monday night.
The Giants are coming off of a disappointing season of their own, and have brought in a new offensive coordinator in Ben McAdoo. The questions remain about McAdoo’s new offense, and several sources indicate that he and Giants quarterback Eli Manning are still a ways off on getting their offense set. Make no mistakes; the Giants have some weapons of their own in Eli Manning, Victor Cruz, Odell Beckham Jr., Jason Pierre-Paul, Mathias Kiwanuka, and Prince Amukamara.
The Detroit Lions and New York Giants Monday Night Football showdown should be able to set the stage for the Monday Night Football season, especially in one of the loudest stadiums in the NFL, Ford Field.
