— The Detroit Tigers (83-66; 1st AL Central) are in Twins Territory as they being a 3-game weekday series in Minnesota tonight. The Twins (63-86; Last in AL Central) have given the Tigers a terrible time this season, with the season series even at 6 wins a piece. The Tigers last trip to Minnesota didn’t go so well, as Detroit was shelled in the opening 2 games 20-6 and 12-4. Detroit would recover to salvage a split of the 4 games, but getting crushed by a last place team was a black eye on the month of August.
10 of the Tigers last 13 games are against the bottom feeders in the AL Central, Chicago and Minnesota, and the Twins have lost 8 of their last 10. Tonight begins their final road trip of the regular season, with 3 in Minnesota before heading to Kansas City for a monster 3-game series. Max Scherzer will start tonight, with Rick Porcello starting on Tuesday, and David Price closing the series out on Wednesday night.
Tonight’s Lineup: Kinsler 2B, Hunter RF, Cabrera 1B, V. Martinez DH, J. Martinez LF, Castellanos 3B, Holaday C, Romine SS, Davis CF. Scherzer is starting. 8:10pm game time on FS Detroit.
— Yesterday was the always entertaining “Rookie Dress Up Day”. After their win against Cleveland, the veterans dressed the youngsters up for an annual right of passage. Some call this hazing, others call this good team comradery. A few pictures are posted below:

— Tigers C Alex Avila left Sunday’s game early because he was feeling light headed. Officially his status is day-to-day, but at what point do the Tigers take him out of the lineup for an extended period of time? Concussions are nothing to joke around about, and I think it’s time the Tigers worry about Avila’s future and sit him for a while. Avila has had a number of concussions throughout the last few seasons, and it’s time he sit. Detroit would miss his behind the dish, but we have to remember these guys are people and their health after baseball needs to be thought of. Avila is not in the starting lineup tonight.
— Tigers SP Anibal Sanchez threw about 25 pitches off the mound today and felt good. He will throw again tomorrow. Should Sanchez be available for the playoffs, Detroit could toss him in to the bullpen.
— Heading into tonight’s game in Minnesota, the Tigers are a game and a half up on the Royals for 1st place in the AL Central division. Oakland and Kansas City occupy the Wild Card spots, with the Royals just 1 game ahead of the Mariners for that last Wild Card spot.
