The report:
Frk is a guy I really liked at last years World Juniorsp laying for the Czech Republic.
Then I looked up his birthdate and saw that he was about three weeks too young to be drafted in 2011. I am beyond excited the Wings were able to get him a year later, as he is a guy the Wings do not have a lot of: pure goal-scoring wingers, and a right-handed shot to boot.
Frk is not huge, but he has a very solid frame that he uses well to protect the puck. He’ll go to the high traffic areas to score, but he doesn’t need to with the shot he possesses.
Frk plays for the Halifax Mooseheads of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, which is a league that isn’t really known for turning out well-rounded hockey players. As you might expect, Frk’s defensive game is a minus, as is his skating, but he is supremely talented offensively.
As a late ’93 born, he will have the option, should the Wings so choose, of playing in the AHL as early as a year from now. For a comparable in that respect, see Tomas Jurco, who will make the jump to the Griffins one year after being drafted in 2011 (he is a late ’92 birth),
Frk was projected to be a top 10 pick, and a sure fire first rounder, a year ago. A concussion robbed him of the first half of the season, and he elected to skip the World Juniors this time around to continue recovering. I liked what I saw in the second half of the year, and from what I saw of him in last years junior tournament, I know he can play against the best of the best.
