Well… that didn’t take long to flip.
Just days after entering the NCAA transfer portal on Jan. 2, veteran Michigan cornerback Zeke Berry has reportedly decided he’s not going anywhere after all. According to ESPN, Berry now plans to return to Ann Arbor for the Wolverines’ first season under new head coach Kyle Whittingham.

Berry — a 5-foot-11, 196-pound defensive back — has one year of eligibility left after spending four seasons with Michigan and carving out a major role in the secondary. He’s appeared in 37 games and made 23 starts, becoming one of the program’s most reliable defenders over the past two years.
And he’s not coming back as just another depth piece, either. Berry is fresh off a standout 2025 campaign in which he racked up 33 tackles, 11 pass breakups and an interception, earning second-team All-Big Ten honors from the media and first-team recognition from conference coaches.
For Whittingham and his staff, keeping Berry out of the portal is a big early win. For Michigan’s defense, it means leadership, experience, and a proven playmaker are sticking around for one more run.
Sounds like the Wolverines just picked up a “portal addition” without losing anyone at all.
