The Detroit Red Wings have recalled goaltender Jared Coreau from the Grand Rapids Griffins following the injury to Jimmy Howard, who will be unavailable for at least the rest of the week.

Howard was hurt in the 2nd period of Detroit’s 4-1 loss to Tampa Bay on Tuesday night after defenseman Nick Jensen landed on top of him in the crease. Howard had to be helped off the ice and down the hallway to the dressing room.
In his only NHL appearance this year, Coreau made 32 saves in a 5-3 loss to Pittsburgh earlier this month. He has an 11-6 record with the Griffins so far this season with a 2.18 goals against and .924 save percentage.
