Report: Bottom Feeder Interested In Poaching Carlton Davis III From Detroit Lions

One of the Detroit Lions’ biggest questions as the free agency period quickly approaches is whether or not they will be able to bring back CB Carlton Davis III. Davis, who is coming off an injury, was the Lions’ No. 1 cornerback in 2024 before getting hurt, and you can bet Brad Holmes is going to make a solid offer to keep him around for the foreseeable future.

Carlton Davis III Is A Wanted Man

Solid cornerbacks don’t grow on trees, and according to a report from Jeremy Fowler of ESPN, the Jacksonville Jaguars are interested in potentially signing Davis.

“The Jaguars will gauge the market of veteran corner Carlton Davis III, another third-contract guy,” Fowler wrote on Sunday.

What Will it Cost to Keep Carlton Davis III?

Whether or not the Lions are able to bring back Davis will likely come down to whether or not they can afford his asking price.

Some have speculated that Davis will land $20 million on the open market, though my opinion is he will get closer to $15 million per season, which I believe is very fair. That said, if a team is willing to overpay, nobody would blame Davis for taking the money, even though he loves playing for the Lions.

Davis Loves him Some Dan Campbell

During a recent interview, Carlton Davis III made it crystal clear that Dan Campbell is the best coach he has ever played for.

“He a real one. He’s my favorite head coach—I ain’t gonna lie—that I done played for,” Davis said.

“That’s why I was out there trying to break my jaw for him.”

Davis, who has played Todd Bowles, Bruce Arians, and Gus Malzahn, said that none of them compare to Dan Campbell.

Bottom Line

When you hear Carlton Davis III talk about Dan Campbell, you would have to believe that he wants to come back. Then, when you consider Campbell has said that Davis was probably the Lions’ best free agent signing last season, it seems like a match made in Heaven. That said, the Lions have some HUGE contract extensions they will soon have to hand out (Aidan Hutchinson and Kerby Joseph just to name a couple), and there is only so much money to go around. Stay tuned!
