There are multiple outdoor games next year, including a prospective January 2nd game between the Chicago Blackhawks and St. Louis Blues in St. Louis. No word on which game will officially be named the “Winter Classic” yet. Toronto’s 100th anniversary is next season and there was almost a guarantee that they would get some kind of big event to celebrate. Detroit and Toronto already competed in one Winter Classic in 2014 at the Michigan Stadium in Ann Arbor, Michigan with the Leafs winning 3-2 in a shootout.
The most likely venue for this game would be Rogers Centre, home of the MLB’s Blue Jays and CFL’s Argonauts. Stay tuned for more details.
