On Deck: Detroit Tigers @ Chicago White Sox

The Detroit Tigers (17-9) will conclude their current 10-game road trip when they begin a 3-game series against the Chicago White Sox. Detroit is coming off a series split with the Kansas City Royals, after dropping the first two in the series and being outscored 12-2. In Friday’s match-up, the Tigers did not collect their first hit of the ball game until the 8th inning. The near combined no-hitter by Kansas City was set up by starter Chris Young, who pitched the minimum five innings, striking out nine Tigers hitters and walking three. On Saturday, Detroit could not have asked for a better performance out of their ace David Price. Price threw a complete game, giving up just one earned run on five hits, and striking out three. He was efficient and just what the doctor ordered. The Tigers earned themselves a split in the series after the bats finally woke up in Kansas City, behind a quality start by Anibal Sanchez, giving up three earned runs in 7 1/3 innings.

On Friday, they got a first look at the Chicago White Sox, who by many are considered to be not only the most improved teams from this past off-season, but a legitimate threat to dethrone the Tigers from atop the AL Central division. The Sox added a plethora of new players to their team, including starting pitcher Jeff Samardzija, outfielder Melky Cabrera, first baseman Adam LaRoche, and relievers Zach Duke and David Robertson. They will play a big role in 2015 in what is a deeper and more competitive AL Central . This weekend belongs to the Tigers, as they were able to take two of three from Chicago.
