He didn’t quite eclipse the theatrics of Zach LaVine’s thrilling NBA slam dunk contest victory Saturday evening, but Rio Grande Valley Vipers guard Jarvis Threatt made the most of his above the rim opportunities Sunday afternoon.
Participating in the D-League’s iteration of the dunk contest, Jarvis defeated Westchester Knicks forward Thanasis Antetokounmpo with an explosive final dunk that saw him catch his own bounce alley-oop and execute a clinching between-the-legs dunk.
Standing just 6’2”, Threatt is a distant cousin of former NBA guard Sedale Threatt. On Sunday, he was consistently great in the D-League’s no-frills-just-dunks event held at halftime of their mid-season all-star game. Beginning with a smooth swinging reverse, Threat followed up with a clockwise bounce 360 before an alley-oop windmill set up his final flush.
