Tigers OF JD Martinez Named AL Player of the Week

outfieler J.D. Martinez has been named AL Player of the Week for the 1st time in his career! This past week, JD-Mart batted .444 (12 for 27) with 3 doubles, 4 home runs, 11 RBI, and 6 runs scored. With a hit yesterday, he extended his AL leading and career long hitting streak to 12 games. has filled in admirably for OF Torii Hunter since Hunter went down with a hamstring injury last week in a series against the Royals. Hunter is expected to return to the lineup on Tuesday against the Texas Rangers, which would force Tigers Manager to make a decision in left field between Martinez and . We'll see how it plays out, but this is definitely a deserving honor for the younger Martinez! Martinez is the 1st Tigers to win the Player of the Week honor this season, and 1st since and shared the award last August.
