Meet the Future: Michael McKee

Fifth RD. 140th overall – Michael McKee

The vitals:

Height: 6’4″

Weight:: 230 lbs

Position: Defense

Team: Lincoln (USHL)

The report:

Mike McKee has committed to play hockey at Western Michigan University after a strong rookie season with the Lincoln Stars of the USHL.

The big defender put up 237 penalty minutes this season. Long story short. he is straight up mean. This is the kind of guy you do NOT want to play against. I’m not sure if he has much NHL upside but if he makes it as a third pairing guy, you’re going to remember playing against him.

From what little I know about the Newmarket, Ont. native, he is a very good skater for his size with a booming shot that he doesn’t use often enough.

He recently switched to defense from forward, so it will be interesting to see what the Wings want to develop him as.

I like taking project guys (which McKee certainly is) who are going to college, because it gives you longer before you’re forced to make a decision on signing them or not. This is a long shot with some nasty upside.

Feel free to YouTube him and watch him pound the snot out of anyone who wants to try to fight him.
