Detroit Lions star Aidan Hutchinson’s 2025 season was already impressive on its own. Now it’s officially being recognized on a national stage.

Hutchinson has been named one of the five finalists for the NFL’s Defensive Player of the Year, joining an elite group that includes Myles Garrett, Micah Parsons, Will Anderson Jr., and Nik Bonitto. What makes Hutchinson’s inclusion even more remarkable is the context: he did it just one year after suffering a broken leg in 2024.
Instead of easing his way back, Hutchinson exploded.
In his first full season since the injury, the Lions’ defensive end posted 14.5 sacks, along with 54 total tackles, 14 tackles for loss, 35 quarterback hits, four forced fumbles, and a Pro Bowl and Second-Team All-Pro selection. He was a constant problem for opposing quarterbacks and the clear engine of Detroit’s pass rush.
The comeback only adds to the legend. A broken leg can derail careers, especially for pass rushers who rely on power, explosion, and bend. Hutchinson didn’t just return; he elevated his game, playing all 17 games and looking stronger and more relentless than ever.

Now, just a year removed from a season cut short by injury, Hutchinson is being mentioned in the same breath as the very best defensive players in football. For the Lions, it’s another sign that their franchise edge rusher isn’t just back, he’s fully arrived as one of the most dominant defenders in the NFL.
