JUST IN: Steven Stamkos reportedly returning to Tampa Bay

Everyone can pack in their big flashy displays and stacks of money they had prepared; Steven Stamkos isn’t going anywhere.

Per a tweet from TSN’s Bob McKenzie, it seems Stamkos has decided he wants to stay with the Tampa Bay Lightning after meeting with a handful of prospective teams. The last report was that he had met with the Toronto Maple Leafs just this week about the possibility of playing there.

Early rumored reports were that the Red Wings were ready to offer Stamkos a 7-year contract worth upwards of $10 million per season, and were in a decent place to do so after shuffling Pavel Datsyuk’s contract off to Arizona. It remains to be seen what other free agents Ken Holland could try and woo at this point.
