Inside the Article:
When the Detroit Lions acquired Jared Goff from the Los Angeles Rams as part of a package for Matthew Stafford, the so-called experts were quick to point out that Goff would stick around in the Motor City until the team could find their future quarterback. Fast forward to the present, and Goff has proven to everybody that HE is Detroit's QB of the future, at least for now. In fact, one NFL insider says Goff has a “steal” of a contract for the boys in Honolulu blue.

Jared Goff's contract is a ‘Steal' for the Detroit Lions
According to Dan Graziano of ESPN, Goff's current contract is a “steal” for the Lions.
Jared Goff is a steal for the Lions at an average of $26.5 million over the next two years. He could be looking for a raise after his big season, but the fact that he's two years from free agency hurts his leverage. Detroit could try to work something out with him like Las Vegas did last offseason with Carr — guaranteeing his 2023 salary and injury-guaranteeing some of his 2024 salary — to keep him happy and reward him. — Dan Graziano
Bottom Line for Goff and Detroit
The bottom line is that plenty of people believed Goff would be traded by now, and all Goff has done is go out and prove those people wrong. Following his outstanding season in 2022, Goff has proven that he is more than capable of leading Detroit's offense. In fact, he was one of the top quarterbacks statistically in 2022 as he led one of the top offenses in the National Football League. At some point, Detroit will draft a quarterback for the future, but I don't believe the time for that is now.
Goff by the Numbers
Goff completed his 2022 regular season ranked in the top 10 in the NFL in nearly all of the major passing categories, including the following.
- 6th in passing yards (4,438)
- 7th in passing yards per attempt (7.56)
- 5th in touchdown passes (29)
- 7th in passer rating (99.3)
- 2nd in interception percentage (1.2)
