Opening Day lineup set; Who will be the Tigers #5 starter?

The Detroit Tigers open the 2016 season in 13 days on the road against the Miami Marlins. The starting lineup is set for that opening game, but, there are still some final roster positions still in open competition.

Projected starting lineup for Opening Day as reported by Chris McCosky at the Detroit News is as follows:

Infield: First base Miguel Cabrera, second base Ian Kinsler, shortstop Jose Iglesias, third base Nick Castellanos.

Outfield: Justin Upton in left, Anthony Gose in center and J.D. Martinez in right.

Battery: Pitcher Justin Verlander, catcher James McCann.

It appears that the starting pitching roster is still somewhat undecided. Due to a nagging back injury to Daniel Norris the fifth starting spot may go to Shane Greene who has pitched well this spring.

Another spot that is still up for grabs is backup catcher. Jarrod Saltalamacchia appears to have that position locked down due to his versatility. Bryan Holaday has been sparkling in spring training and will likely be dealt to another team.

Cameron Maybin is on the DL for the near future so Anthony Gose will be holding down center field to start the season. Options for backup outfielders include Tyler Collins, Wynton Bernard, and Andrew Romine.
