The Edmonton Oilers and Colorado Avalanche made a minor league deal just now.
To Edmonton: Kevin Montgomery
To Colorado: Shawn Belle
To Florida Panthers: Sergei Samsonov
To Carolina Hurricanes: Bryan Allen
Analysis: Panthers are now really young on the blue line after getting rid of McCabe, Wideman and now Allen. They might not be done for the day, because I can’t imagine they want to finish out the season with the 6 guys they have left on D, unless they are tanking for a lottery pick hoping to grab Adam Larsson.
The Panthers defense went from a decent unit, to now one that looks like it could be a lot of long nights for Tomas Vokoun.
To Chicago Blackhawks: Chris Campoli, Conditional 7th round pick
To Ottawa Senators: 2nd round pick and Ryan Potulny
Chicago needed to add some bodies to their defense after suffering a couple of injuries on their backend, and Campoli’s contract is expiring so it doesn’t cost them anything beyond this year. He will be an RFA on July 1st.
Potulny has been in the pros since 2006, but has only one full NHL season under his belt (with Edmonton last year). He had spent most of his season with Rockford of the AHL, playing 3 games with the Blackhawks and registering no points.
