Former Detroit Red Wings play-by-play announcer Dave Strader joined his old broadcast partner Mickey Redmond in the Fox Sports Detroit booth during the 2nd intermission of Detroit’s game again the Dallas Stars on Tuesday night.
The former broadcast duo reminisced about their old days together, and Strader also provided an update on his battle with bile duct cancer.
Strader’s tenure with the Red Wings lasted over a decade (1985-96) before he was hired by ESPN. He also called NHL games for FOX before being hired by the Florida Panthers in 2005. He was then hired by the Phoenix Coyotes in 2007 before being hired by NBC/Versus in 2011.
Strader is currently the play-by-play announcer for the Stars, but is currently on a leave of absence from the team as he deals with his illness. We send our best wishes for a full and speedy recovery to one of the best hockey voices out there.
